It’s resource Monday but on a Thursday!:

In Its resource Monday! on April 18, 2013 at 1:53 pm

Ok each week I am scouring the net for great resources of all kinds.  Primarily for writers but it can be whatever fancies me.

This week I’d like to present…drum roll please…

Let’s give them a hand shall we!

I will be adding a report card from now on to each resource I find.  I will always evaluate a resource in several areas.  Cost, ease of use, does it direct traffic towards you, the ease of customer support. Finally is the resource a recognized authority in its industry?

In these areas receives a solid A with a score of 15 out of 16.  This is an awesome site that has a wide variety of resources for the writer.

Under the author resources tab at the top of the website is several great articles but what is really golden is the Press Release Distribution  and the Email Service Providers information the site contains.  For new authors looking for assistance on promoting their work.  This is wonderful information.

For example with the press release distribution you can download an excel spreadsheet that contains links and listings of both free and paid press release services.  Again its FREE!

The only thing in my opinion that could make this site even better is an actual telephone number that you can contact someone for customer support.  Currently the only option if you need assistance is a text box where you can send an email inquiry.

Again, I am always working to bring you good information that will help you be successful in writing and marketing.  I think this is a great addition to our other resources.

By the way I still take cash, check and credit card!  Just kiddin’!

It’s Inspiration Tuesday!

In It's Inspiration Tuesday! on April 16, 2013 at 2:03 pm

Because I know music makes your braver. Today’s inspirational song is a piece from the Audiomachine’s Warlords.

A powerful piece, that invokes images of battle and shouts with the cries of combat. It stirs you to march towards that which you fear, or to purposes that will not to be denied.

If you need to muster up the courage to move forward. Take this song as your clarion call to action and know no fear.

Battle on warrior. Battle on, and know that nothing shall stop them that believe.

How I write my novels a 10 step beginners guide. Step 7: Write!

In How to begin your novel in 10 steps, On writing, Uncategorized on April 14, 2013 at 7:13 pm

Writing a novel can be a daunting task. I know because it’s taken me 7 years to complete my first one.  However, writing is easier for me now, than when I started. I realize that there are many of you who want to write that first novel, so let me lend my acquired experience to make your journey easier.

I have 10 steps that I realized I have used to complete my book.  During the next 10 weeks I’m going to provide you with the actual and specific tools that have used.  I’m going to put them up on this blog for you to see, and I’m going to give them away to you for free!  Yes, free because I want you to be successful! I know that they will work for you  some of you are more computer literate than others, so my tools are going to help you no matter what level of proficiency you have in software or hardware.  All you need is a desire to learn, and a willingness to implement the steps.

Ok here is step Seven: Write.

You have your inspiration, you established some world creation, you have an outline.  You have your materials.  Stop loafing and get to writing.

It doesn’t matter what you have.  If you don’t write nothing will ever be produced.  It’s not enough that the idea and world and characters are in your head.  They must be released from the prison of your mind to live on paper.  Only then can the purpose of your novel be realized.  That being for others to enjoy.

Write.  Just do it.  Try to write 1000 words a day.  Yep.  Keep a limit.  Shoot for a 1k a day in words.  Move it.  Get off your butt.  Start writing!

I do not care how much you read about writing.  It is NOT writing.  Only writing is writing.  Outlining is not writing.  Character creation is not writing.  Marketing, is not writing.

Only writing is writing.  So get to it.  Push out words.  Write the images that come to your mind.  Just get them out.  Connect them later.  But write the images or scenes that are in your head.

Pick a time when others know you are not to be disturbed.  But write.  If you need to do it in the morning, or in the evening write.  If you don’t get to 1000 words still write.

Write daily.  Make it a priority.  But write.  Do a lil something daily.  But write.

Only writing will make you better.  Only writing will see your vision materialized: only writing counts.

It does not matter how much of the previous steps you did if you do not write you have been active but not productive.  You have missed the mark if you do everything but write.

So write.  Write as if your life depended on it

Some say you should not worry about grammar and spelling as you write.  I say do what you want.  Just do not get bogged down.  Correcting already generated text is NOT writing.  It is revision.  Write.  Generate new text…new words.  Leave the revision for after you have finished writing.

This step out of all the others is the most important.  This step is the only one that will create your masterpiece.  Your work.  Nothing else.  Everything else is star stuff.  Writing is where the planet is formed. Where the rubber hits the road.  That which separates those who do from those who try.  Nothing else matters.  In the words of the company Nike.

Just do it.

Controversy is Christian: Art and the Christian

In Controversy is Christian on April 13, 2013 at 1:09 am

Ok so I want to start a weekend topic dealing with subject matters that are controversial.  Yep  stuff you’re not gonna like.  Or at least will have a strong opinion about.  Actually, I want this to be a lively debate about what you think, and more importantly, why you think what you do.

So lets me lay a groundwork.  When doing a devotional reading I noticed that God in the book of Genesis made two types of tree.  Those that were good for food, and those that were pleasing to the eye.

Gen 2:9 KJV

And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; (italics mine)

Now this is interesting to me.  Because why not just make trees that were functional.  In other words who cares about trees that look good?  Well based on this scripture apparently God does.  Beauty has a function all its own.  Apparently, food alone is not sufficient for man’s existence.  Beauty is also important.  It also serves a function in creation.

So this leads to my discussions.  Art serves no purpose right?  I don’t think its a stretch to say that art in all its forms is an extension of this ‘beauty’ that God deems important.

Art doesn’t feed you, it won’t keep you warm, it won’t satisfy mans need for sexual gratification.  What purpose then does art serve?  The same purpose as the trees of beauty apparently.  Somehow, beauty is important to God, and he thought it important to man.  Is art to the inner man what food is to the outer man?

So here are my questions.

Does all art have to be Christian themed?

Does all music have to Christian themed?

Does all writing have to Christian themed?

Literature, music, and visual arts can all be classified under the category of ‘art’.

Are Christians limited to listening to music, literature, and visual works of art that are not Christ centric?

Think about it?  In my community we talk about secular music, and Christian (gospel music) We really look down on people who listen to something other than gospel.  Why?

Is this standard applicable to literature?  Visual art?

So give me your comments.  I’m curious (especially from believers) what you thoughts are.  But hey non-Christians feel free to chime in as well!

Do we Christians have issues with art that is none Christ centric?  If so why?

Remember be respectful! I’m looking forward to hearing your views!

It’s resource Monday but on a Thurs…ugh Friday!

In Its resource Monday!, On Marketing on April 12, 2013 at 1:23 pm

Ok each week I am scouring the net for great resources of all kinds.  Primarily for writers but it can be whatever fancies me.

This week I would like to present…drum roll please…

Let us give them a hand shall we!

As writers, we need to promote our writing.  Authors in particular have not often had the resources of how to contact media outlets to help broadcast their works.

Well this little gem of a site will allow you to send your press release to various media outlets promoting your work.

In their own words, “WebWire distributes your business, organizational and personal news releases and press releases on and over the Internet. Our online service delivers news releases directly to Internet readers and is an integral part of Search Engine Inclusion and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). WebWire’s online service also delivers press releases directly to targeted media (reporters, registered media as well as trade publications) and media-only wire services (accessed by leading print, broadcast and online publications) powered by our unique partnership with PR Newswire.

They have various purchasing packages with the lowest being $24.95

I think this site is a great way to promote your book and depending on the level of money you want to spend, you can scour all manner of media outlets.

I have included a YouTube video that talks about to submit to WebWire.

I am always working to bring you good information that will help you be successful in writing and marketing.  I think this a great addition to our other resources.

By the way I still take cash, check and credit card!  J

Marketing Plan Creation (Part 1): Defining Objectives

In On Marketing on April 9, 2013 at 6:20 pm

I love good information. So when ever I come across such. I always want to share it. I figure there’s enough room for us all to be successful. Enjoy!

Marketing Plan Part 1:
Defining Objectives for Your Novel

Most of you know by now that my educational background is in marketing. Currently, I’ve just completed my marketing class that was specifically garnered to relationship marketing, which is very important in terms of developing a relationship in publishing with your reader. There are other more basic (not to say they aren’t complex, they are just more well known) marketing fundamentals that are also important in the publishing world. These fundamentals are especially crucial if you choose the route of indie or self-publishing. In the world of indie and self-publishing you will run much of your own publishing world–this is to say that you will need to be the one to develop your own marketing plan or strategy. The traditional marketing process of creating a marketing plan can easily be adapted to your novel, and I am going to do a…
